定語從句中的why

1.先行詞表示時間、地點、原因,但關係詞指代先行詞在定語從句中充當主語或賓語時,應用關係代詞that或which。如:

I’ll never forget 1976 that / which was full of sadness.

(作主語)

我不會忘記充滿悲哀的1976年。

I regret the days (that/which) I wasted in the woods.

(作賓語)

我後悔在森林裏虛度的日子。

This is the factory that/which produces cars. (作主語)

這就是那個生產小汽車的工廠。

This is the factory (that/which) he visited yesterday.

(作賓語)

這就是他昨天參觀的工廠。

This is the reason that/which is unreasonable. (作主語)

這是一個沒道理的理由。

This is the reason (that/which) he raised. (作賓語)

這是他提出的'理由。

2. 關係副詞有時相當於 “適當的介詞+關係代詞”。如:

① where=in/on which

This is the room where / in which he lives.

這就是他住的房間。

I can see the desk where / on which there is a book.

我能看見上面有一本書的那張桌子。

② when= on/in/at which

I still remember the year when/ in which I joined the Party. 我仍然記得入黨的那一年。

I still remember the day when/on which I joined the Party. 我仍然記得入黨的那一天。

I still remember the date when/at which I joined the Party. 我仍然記得入黨的那個日子。

③why=for which

This is the reasonwhy/ for which he was killed.

這是他被殺害的原因。

3. 當先行詞為time表示 “次數”時,常用關係詞that或省去關係詞,而不用when來引導定語從句。如:

This is the first/last time that I shall give you a lesson.

這是我第一次/最後一次給你們上課。

4. 當point, situation等詞作先行詞表抽象的地點,其後常由where引導定語從句, where在定語從句中作地點狀語。
