十分著名的话

在生活中说“再见”的机会跟说“你好”一样多——这个不幸的事实曾被塞缨尔·泰勒·科尔里奇概括道：“相遇、结识、恋爱——然后又分离，在许多人心中留下忧伤的记忆。”

既然已决定要说“再见”，问题在于如何把这句道别的话说得恰如其分。英国大诗人拜伦曾写道：“当永别人世时，所有告别话会一涌而出。”

罗伯特·伯恩斯的《向南希告别》是所有辞别诗中最负盛名的，因为它包括了最典型的告别要素——不乞求爱情，失望，希冀，美好的祝愿等等。这首诗的结尾这样说道：“永远别提我们曾缠绵相爱，永远不谈我们曾盲目相爱!要么永不相遇，要么永不分开，我们决不会肝肠寸断……”在查尔斯·狄更斯的小说《双城记》中，卡顿在他上断头台之前，曾说过一番在文学修辞上措词极佳、意味深长的告别话：“我要去做一件从来没做过的非常非常好的事，我将去享受一次我从未享受过的十分十分安逸的休息……”

最令人心碎的道别话要数莎士比亚的《罗密欧与朱丽叶》一剧中，罗密欧所说的一段台词：“晚安，再见!分别竟是这样一种甜蜜的悲哀，我要念叨着‘晚安、再见’……，一直到明天。”

政治性的告别话又当别论。英国前首相温斯顿·邱吉尔，在谈到他在英国首次公民投票选举中获胜的感受时，说：“1940年5月10日那天晚上，在这场权力之战刚开始时，我便掌握了国家大权。此后5年零3个月的世界大战中。我运用这个权力为国家办了许多事。当我就职期满时，我们的敌人无条件投降了。由于英国选民们要求进一步管理国家大事，我随即离职。”此后又过了好些年，邱吉尔对死神笑脸相迎：“我已做好去见上帝的准备。至于上帝是否想在召见我之前还要磨炼一下我，那是另外一回事。”

在一个人要死的时候，主观意识上会出现一些意味深长或荒谬可笑的预感。当然如果没有必要或是出于无奈，我们当中很少有人自愿跨过生死界限。而且很多人都是先留下诀别的话，然后才咽下最后一口气。英国大作家肖伯纳是个现实主义者，他临死前对护士说：“小妹妹，你尽心竭力要让我活在世上，正如保存一件老古董一样。但是我已不中用了，生命即将结束，我正走向死亡。”有一位运气不佳的南极探险队员劳伦斯·奥茨，在冰天雪地中患了严重的冻伤和低气压症，为了使自己不成为其他人的拖累，他诀定牺牲自己。在他走出营地帐篷时说道：“我打算出去一下。”但他一去不复返。美国最有名的刑场诀别词，要算民族英雄内森·黑尔所讲的那段话：“我唯一感到遗憾的是，我只有一次生命献给我的祖国。”

有许多军人临死时很少发表长篇大论或者为后人留下遗嘱。美国著名的“石墙”将军杰克逊在阵亡时对他的随从说：“让我们渡过这条河，坐在对岸的树荫下。”1890年印度首相克劳福特在加拿大卡加立市附近逝世时，最后留下的话是：“隔不了多久，我就要走了，究竟上哪儿我也无法说。反正我们从哪儿来就得回哪儿去。生活是什么?它是夜间萤火虫的闪光，是冬日水牛的喘息。它像那小小的幻影飞奔过草地，然后消失在落日的余晖里……”。
